Invisalign Alternative Options to Improve Your Smile

By Rafael Mercado, DDS on January 31, 2021

Invisalign® is a discreet orthodontic system that corrects alignment issues using a series of clear dental trays. Many people choose Invisalign because it allows them to achieve a straighter smile without anyone seeing their orthodontic treatment.

Although Invisalign is a popular treatment for correcting bite issues and improving the overall appearance of the smile, it is not the only option in orthodontic treatment. At Castle Hills Family Dental, Dr. Rafael Mercado offers several Invisalign alternative options to patients in and around Castle Hills, TX. Today we’ll take a closer look at some of these options and how they may be able to help improve your smile and boost your confidence.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces use a system of metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands to gradually move and correct the position of the teeth.

Although metal braces do not provide the discretion of Invisalign’s clear aligners, they remain a popular option for correcting alignment issues due to their effectiveness and ability to address a wide range of alignment issues.

Traditional metal braces can correct mild to severe malocclusion, close large gaps between the teeth, and treat other complex issues that may not be suitable for Invisalign treatment.

Clear Braces

For Castle Hills Family Dental patients who require traditional braces but would prefer a more discreet treatment, clear braces may be a good choice.

With clear braces, clear brackets are used instead of silver metal to make the orthodontic treatment less noticeable. Clear braces can address the same issues as traditional braces, making them a good choice for those who would like discreet orthodontic treatment but are not good candidates for Invisalign.

ClearCorrect

ClearCorrect is a clear aligner system much like Invisalign. ClearCorrect is removable to allow for ease of brushing and flossing as well as improved comfort while eating. Because the aligners are removed while eating, patients who choose ClearCorrect can continue to enjoy their favorite foods during orthodontic treatment.

Like Invisalign, those with complex alignment issues may not be good candidates for ClearCorrect and instead may require traditional or clear braces.

Porcelain Veneers

For minor issues with tooth misalignment that are cosmetic in nature, orthodontic care may not be needed. Instead, patients may simply need porcelain veneers instead of Invisalign treatment. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored material that cover the front of a tooth. When in place, they mask imperfections from view.

Porcelain veneers can be used to close gaps, improve smile symmetry, and conceal minor twisting and uneven tooth size.

Choosing the Right Treatment

The right treatment for you will depend on your orthodontic needs and goals for treatment.

Those with complex or severe alignment issues are generally not suitable candidates for porcelain veneers, ClearCorrect, or Invisalign. However, a clear option is available through clear braces.

Clear and traditional braces are the leading option for those with more severe alignment issues, but they remain a great option for those with less complex or even mild problems who don’t want to keep track of aligner trays.
